Elementary Weekly Happenings 8.29.2011 - 9.2.2011


September Lunch Forms:  Please make sure they have been turned in. 
Labor Day:  There will be no school on Monday, September 5, in observance of Labor Day.
Early Dismissal:  Friday, September 2.  Dismissal times are as follows:
11:30....K5 Half Day (regular time)
    1:30....K5 Full Day
  1:45...1st - 3rd Grades
  2:00...4th - 6th Grades
Extended Care will be available for regular users.
Girls Peewee Basketball:  All 4th, 5th and 6th girls that are interested in playing basketball need to sign up with Coach Melissa by this Friday, September 2. 
Class Roster:  A class roster will be sent home with your child today.  If there is any change in your child's information please make those changes and send the roster back to your child's teacher by Friday, September 2.  If the information is correct there is no need to send the roster back.
Mrs. Debra Lightsey (5th grade teacher) will begin tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays after school.   If you are interested in having your child tutored please call the office at 
601-649-3999.

Preschool Weekly Happenings 8.29.2011 - 9.2.2011


No School:  Please note that there will be NO SCHOOL & NO EXTENDED CARE on Monday, September 5, 2011 in observance of Labor Day.  School will resume on Tuesday, September 6th.
Reminder:   Please remember that drop-off begins at 7:30 am.
Carpool numbers:  Please be sure that your carpool number is visible.  Use Windex or alcohol to moisten the windshield before applying the number to the upper passenger side on the outside of the windshield.
Extended Care:   Extended Care payments are due for September.  Please send in payments by Thursday, September 1st.  
Sickness:  If your child is sick, please do not send him or her to school.  Please be sure that your child is fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
Backpack:  Please check your child’s backpack daily.  This is how we communicate with you.  We will check your child’s backpack daily for correspondence you send to school.
PTO:  If you have not signed up for PTO, please get a form from the office.  The cost is $15.00 per family.
Medication:  If your child requires special medicine to be given at school, please send it in the backpack with instructions on how and when to give it.
Change of clothes:  Please be sure that your child has a change of clothes at school.  Please label all items and place in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name.

Preschool Weekly Happenings 8.22.2011 - 8.26.2011


Reminder: Please remember that drop-off begins at 7:30 am.

We will begin the next two weeks of school sending home our “Weekly Happenings”. This is our main form of communication, so please take the time to read it. Beginning the week of August 29th; the Weekly Happenings will not be sent home but will be placed on the school website weekly. The school website is www.laurelchristian.org. If you would like a paper copy, you may obtain one from the school office.

Kid’s CafĂ©: September lunch forms will go home this week. Please return by Friday, August 26th.

Backpacks: Please check your child’s backpack daily. This is how we communicate with you. We will check your child’s backpack daily for correspondence you send to school.

PTO: If you have not signed up for PTO, please get a form from the office. The cost is $15.00 per family.

Medication: If your child requires special medicine to be given at school, please send it in the backpack with instructions on how and when to give it.

Carpool Notes:  *In the mornings when you are dropping off your child please make sure they are ready.
   *If you are late for your child’s pick-up time please go to the end of the line.
Swim Team:  Regularly scheduled practice begins this week with Coach Eason. 
Cross Country:  Practice begins this week.  
Booster Club:  Mandatory Meeting - Monday, August 22nd, at 6:30 pm, at LCHS. We will specifically be organizing to host the state swim meet again this year.  (Wednesday, 
October 5th)

Box Tops for Education:  Thank you so much for clipping the Box Tops for Education.  Last year we made over $400.00 for the library.  Please start sending in your Box Tops for Education and empty ink cartridges so that we may purchase new materials for the library.  Thank You!

High School Weekly Happenings 8.15.2011 - 8.19.2011


Welcome back students!  We are so thankful to see you and are looking forward to a wonderful year together.
The High School office hours will be 7:30-3:00, Monday through Friday.  Please do not hesitate to call or stop by if you need anything.
**Students and Parents:
In an effort to move forward technologically, we are streamlining all news, events, and updates.  As of Friday, August 19th there will no longer be LCHS Weekly Happenings.  Please visit our website at www.laurelchristian.org  for upcoming events, and please check your email regularly for other various information.  Thank you for your cooperation.
Lunch:  September lunch forms are due by 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, August 25th.  Please make checks payable to LCS.
Chapel:  Friday is Chapel.
Dress Code:  Please reference the Dress Code (requirements and violations) you received at Orientation. 


Sports News:
Booster Club:  There will be a meeting Monday, August 22nd at 6:30pm at LCHS. 
Cross Country:  Practice will begin this Wednesday immediately after school. 3:15 - 4:30.  Be sure to bring running attire and water bottles.
Basketball:  9th - 12th grade boys will have practice this Tuesday from 5:00pm - 7:15pm.  
Girl’s Soccer Practice: Monday, August 15 - after school
Girl’s Soccer Games: Tuesday, August 16 - Away game at Brookhaven (Dismissed at 1:00, Depart at 1:30, Game at 4:00)
Sports Physicals:  Jeff Moffett will administer physicals at Westridge Clinic (13th Ave.) for $20 on Saturday, August 20th from 9am - 12pm.

Elementary Weekly Happenings 8.15.2011 - 8.19.2011


August Lunch Forms were sent home last week.  Please make sure you have turned them in!  Kid's Cafe will start serving lunch on Wednesday, August 17.  Remember, to send a lunch with your child until then.  
Carpool Reminders:  This year there will be only one line for carpool.  Overflow from the carpool line at all times should wind through the Highland parking lot behind the school instead of lining up on 7th Avenue.  If you have children in different grades, please line up according to the oldest child’s pick up time!  Remember: One Line….At The Oldest Child’s Time!  Please wait to arrive at their designated pick up time!
Dismissal Times: 
11:30...1/2 Day K5 
2:15... Full Day K5 
2:30...1st and 2nd grades
2:45...3rd and 4th grades
2:55... 5th and 6th grades
A physical is required if your child intends to participate in a sport at LCS. You may obtain the required form from the office and get the physical from the health care provider of your choice.  Jeff Moffett will be doing physicals on Saturday, August 20 from 9 am to 12 pm at Westridge Family Clinic on 13th Avenue in Laurel.
Swim Team:  will begin practice Tuesday, August 16th, with a stroke class offered by Warren Holliday at the Natatorium. (Paid for by LCS Athletics). Time 3:30-4:30 Tuesday - Friday and Monday - Thursday the following week. You may choose to go as often as you like on these days. Please arrive early on Tuesday for registration.  Regularly scheduled practice will begin the following week with Coach Eason. Please begin making arrangements to have your physical completed.
Cross Country:  6th graders interested in cross country need to complete their physicals as practice will begin the following week.  Times and days TBD.  Announcements will be made.

Remember to put your child’s name on all lunch boxes, backpacks, jackets, etc.
Reminder:  Students are required to wear their school uniforms purchased through Land’s End.  We understand that some of the uniforms that you ordered have not come in yet.  Please let your child wear a solid blue (cobalt or navy) solid red, or solid yellow polo shirt and khaki shorts, or khaki pants until they do arrive.  Please make sure your child wears a belt with pants or shorts that have belt loops.  All shirts must be tucked in.  Please note:  Feather extensions are not allowed.
Weekly Happenings will be sent home on Mondays.  You may also find weekly happenings at our website(www.laurelchristian.org). If you would like something printed in the Weekly Happenings please send or e-mail (jkneipp@comcast.net) the item to Julie Kneipp, in the office, by Friday of the week before you want the item to run.
