High School Weekly Happenings 5.16.2011 - 5.19.2011

Last Day of School:  Thursday, May 19th, is the last day of school.  We wish all of you a wonderful summer!

Report Cards:  Report cards will be mailed the week of May 23rd.

Re-enrollment:  If you have not re-enrolled, please send in your application as soon as possible.  We do not want your student to 
lose their spot.

Washington, D.C. Trip:  Attention 7th & 8th Grade Parents:  If you missed the Washington, D.C. meeting, you may pick up an information packet in the school office.  Two forms from the information packet and a non-refundable deposit of $100 per person are due by Wednesday, May 18 to the school office to secure your spot.  Please be aware that there is limited space on the trip this year, and our bus sizes will be determined by the forms and deposits submitted by May 18.  There is no guarantee that there will be spaces open after our bus size is locked in.  If you have any questions please call Whitney Pickering at 601-428-1181.

Tennis:   Patrick Tibbs will hold a private tennis class for any LCS students from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Fridays for $10.  Students must call ahead to secure a spot.  You may reach Coach Tibbs at 601-580-1336.   
2010-2011 Second Semester Exam Schedule
Tuesday, May 17th will be a full day of school.  However, 6th period will be a study hall, and during 7th period the 7th period exam will be given.
All other Exams will be given as follows:

9:15 - 9:25 BREAK         BREAK

If a student doesn’t have an exam during the assigned time, he/she may sign out.

Attn: 5th Grade Parents: Please send your form to the school office ASAP letting us know how you can help with the 6th grade graduation reception, one of out longest traditions at LCS. We need you to let us know if you can help make food or send $10 to cover the cost of paper goods and other supplies.
Attn: 6th Grade Parents: Please send your RSVP form that was sent home letting us know how many of your family members will be attending 6th grade graduation. This enables us to plan the reception for your child and family.

Kindergarten Parents Please Note: K-5 Graduation is Wednesday, May 18th, at 8:30 am, in the Sanctuary. Please have your kindergartener wear Sunday Clothes. K-5 Students dismissed after Graduation Ceremony.

Friday, May 20: No School and No Extended Care.

Thank you to the moms of Mrs. Hinton’s 2nd grade class. The appetizers, finger foods and desserts were delicious! Thank you!

Used Uniform Sale: Thursday, June 9, 4:30 – 6:00 pm. (Set up at 4:00). If you have any questions about buying or selling uniforms contact Teresa Martin at 580-2579 or the LCS school office at 649-3999. This will be the only sale for used uniforms.

Tutoring: Mrs. Sheri Webb will have math tutoring on Wednesdays this summer. The fee will be $15 per 30-minute session. Please call the office at 601-649-3999 or send a note so your child can be added to the schedule. Also, Mrs. Kathy Marshall (Mrs. Webb’s aunt) will be tutoring reading this summer.

High School Weekly Happenings 5.9.2011 - 5.13.2011

Awards Chapel:  On Monday, May 9, we will have our annual Awards Chapel.  Students are required to wear chapel dress.  The 7th & 8th grade Awards Chapel will begin at 9:30 a.m., and those students will be dismissed for the day following Chapel.  The 9th-12th grade Awards Chapel will begin at 12:30.  Students who received Headmaster’s List or Honor Roll for the year will be recognized, in addition to those who participated in the ABC competition.  You will receive an email if your child will be recognized for class or SAT achievement.
   
Graduation Practice:  All seniors must attend graduation practice immediately following Awards Chapel on Monday, May 9th.

Music Program: The 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade Patriotic Program will be Wednesday, May 11, in the Sanctuary, at 8:10 am. Students, please wear uniform bottoms and a patriotic colored top. The top should be red, white and/or blue.

One of our LCS families' house burned two weeks ago. The Jordan’s have two children at our school, Cierra, a second grader, in Mrs. Lester's class and Kierra, a fifth grader, in Mrs. Smith's class. We would like to do something to show our love and concern. Monetary donations will be used to purchase a Wal-Mart gift card. Other items that you would like to send will be given to the family (blankets, kitchen items, etc.) Please pray about this and give from the heart. Please respond by Tuesday, May 10. Thank you.

Relay for Life: Thank you to everyone for all your support in making this year’s event a success!

Seniors Last Day: The seniors last day of school is this Thursday, May 5th, 2011. We will miss you!

Summer Drivers Ed Course: If you have a drivers permit or license and are interested in taking Drivers Ed this summer at the Pine Belt Education Service Center please see Mrs. Tina Thompson.

Drama Club: Bravo LCS Players! Congratulations on a great performance! Please return any props or costume pieces to school this week. If you would like to order a professionally recorded DVD of The Girl and the Gold Mine, starring the LCS Players, please come by the office and fill out a form. The last day to order is Wednesday, May 4. (Cost of DVD-$15)

Art Students: DAY IN THE PARK is coming up May 7. Any student wishing to enter artwork may enter up to 2 works at the cost of $2.00 each. Artwork needs to be mounted on poster board or mat board (no framed works) and brought to Mrs. Ishee no later than Wednesday, May 4, so she can get them turned in for judging. Also, any Laurel Arts League winners or MAIS District winners may be done at school or home. If you need more information call Mrs. Ishee at 601-433-7727.

Congratulations to Tylee Shows for coming in 3rd place for 2nd grade at the State Level in “The Woodsy Owl” Smokey the Bear Poster Contest sponsored by the National Garden Clubs of America.

Pillow Pets: Through generous donations from our LCS students, each class was able to donate a pillow pet to the precious children at Blair Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson. Thank You!

Preschool Weekly Happenings 5.2.2011 - 5.6.2011

Baby Dolls and Bears: The Preschool will have a special visit from a Nurse this Friday, May 6th at
10:00 am. Boys and Girls should bring their favorite doll or stuffed animal to school for a check-up with a nurse. The nurse will take each doll or stuffed animal’s blood pressure, temperature, etc.


Extended Care: Extended Care Payments are due today, Monday, May 2nd. All accounts MUST be PAID IN FULL by this FRIDAY, May 6th. No student will be allowed to stay after Friday, unless accounts are current.


Tuition: April tuition is due this Thursday, May 5th. Please send in payments ASAP. All accounts must be paid in full no later than Friday, May 6th.


Re-registration: Classes are beginning to fill quickly. Please return Re-registration packets along with fees and capital improvement fees ASAP, to ensure a spot for your child for next school year.


Muffins with Mom: We will have “Muffins with Mom” on Friday, May 6th from 7:15-8:00 am. More information concerning this event will be sent in the coming weeks.


Preschool End-of-the-Year Program: The Preschool will have a program on Wednesday, May 11th. The K3 Classes will have their program at 9:30 a.m. and the K4 Classes will have their program at 10:15 a.m.


Preschool Fun day: The Preschool Fun day will be on Friday, May 13th from 8:30-11:00 a.m.


Preschool Last Day of School: The Preschool’s last day of school will be Wednesday, May 18th. There will be No Extended Care that day.
