High School Weekly Happenings 4.26.2011 - 4.29.2011

Relay for Life:   Next Friday, April 29th will be the LCHS’s 1st  Annual Relay for Life Field Day.  Students please bring $2.00 to participate and wear your “Vote for a Cure” t-shirt or an LCS shirt with modest shorts.  Coach Slaughter, Kory Duncan, and Mr. Brunk are putting together some exciting and fun-filled activities.  Concessions will also be available.  All donations go to the American Cancer Society and benefit the many families who are affected in our school.  As the school day ends, we encourage everyone to join our LCS Team at the Relay for Life event later that night.  It begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Sportsplex.  Please help us “Walk for a Cure”!  For more information, please contact Mrs. Jade Yoder at the High School (601-649-4190).

LCS Players Dessert Theater:  Tickets are now on sale for the LCS Players Dessert Theater to be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28th, at the Audubon Campus.  You may purchase tickets for $10 at the High School or Elementary Office.  
Summer Drivers Ed Course:  If you have a drivers permit or license and are interested in taking Drivers Ed this summer at the Pine Belt Education Service Center please see Mrs. Tina Thompson.

Washington, D.C. Trip:  Attention 7th & 8th Grade Parents:  If you missed the Washington, D.C. meeting on Tuesday evening, you may pick up an information packet in the school office.  Two forms from the information packet and a non-refundable deposit of $100 per person is due by Wednesday, May 18 to the school office to secure your spot.  Please be aware that there is limited space on the trip this year, and our bus sizes will be determined by the forms and deposits submitted by May 18.  There is no guarantee that there will be spaces open after our bus size is locked in.  Questions?  Call Whitney Pickering at:  601-429-1181.

Elementary Weekly Happenings 4.26.2011 - 4.29.2011

Drama Club:  Dress Rehearsal! (Sanctuary)  Tuesday, April 26.  Parents are welcome to stay and be the audience!  There will be a quick snack so that rehearsal can start at 2:40.  Students be sure and bring your costumes with you to school or parents be sure to have costumes here before 2:30!  This week's snack mom is Tina Thompson.  
Field Day Update...In lieu of our regular field day events, we are having a 1 mile Fun Run honoring Coach Melissa.  We are asking that all families join in on this special event on Friday, April 29. This is a fun run, so it may be run, jogged, or walked.  The cost of the race is $5.00 per person.  (This race is a benefit for Coach Melissa). As the school day ends we encourage everyone to join our LCS team at the Relay For Life event later that night.  It begins at 7 pm at the Sportsplex.  Please help us "Walk for a  Cure".  For more information please contact Mrs. Jade Yoder, at the High School, at 601-649-4190.

Friday, April 29:  Field Events begin at 8:10.  One Mile Fun Run begins at 9:30.  The Fun Run will be over by 10:30.  Parents that are here may take their child/children home at this time.  Otherwise dismissal times are as follows:  
10:30...All K-5 Classes
11:00...All other Classes
Extended Care is available for regular users

Fun Run:  15 or 20 parent volunteers are needed to help with the Fun Run.  A sign-up sheet will be sent home today. If you are interested in helping please fill out the form and return to your child's teacher.

Thank you to all the 1st and 2nd grade moms that baked the delicious goodies for our bake sale benefit! The next bake sale benefit for Coach Melissa will be the first week in May.  Kindergarten, 3rd and 4th grade moms will be sending baked items on Wednesday, May 4. 

Music Program:  The 4th, 5th and 6th grade Patriotic Program will be Wednesday, May 4, in the Sanctuary, at 8:10 am.  Students, please wear uniform bottoms and a patriotic colored top. The top should be red, white and/or blue.

Art Students: DAY IN THE PARK is coming up May 7.  Any student wishing to enter artwork may enter up to 2 works at the cost of $2.00 each.  Artwork needs to be mounted on poster board or mat board (no framed works) and brought to Mrs. Ishee no later than Wednesday, May 4, so she can get them turned in for judging.  Also, any Laurel Arts League winners or MAIS District winners may be done at school or home.  If you need more information call Mrs. Ishee at 601-433-7727.

High School Weekly Happenings 4.4.2011 - 4.8.2011

Headmaster’s Breakfast:  The PTO will provide breakfast on Thursday, April 7th at 7:30 for all students who made the Headmaster’s list the third nine weeks of school.

Relay for Life (American Cancer Society):  Fundraising efforts have begun for this year’s event, scheduled Friday, April 29th at the Sportsplex.  LCS Team Captains are Mrs. Jade Yoder, Mrs. Holli Hinton, and Mrs. Elizabeth Lee.  If you are interested in helping with any fundraising events or being a team member and walking at the event, please contact Jade Yoder (649-4190).  Donations are accepted at any time.  Please make checks payable to the American Cancer Society.  Thank you for your support!

ACT Prep Camp:  JCJC is offering an ACT prep camp this summer.  The camp will be held Monday, June 6 through Thursday, June 9, which is the week of the National ACT Test.  The cost for the camp is $250 which includes room and board, and a copy of “The Princeton Review” ACT prep book.  For more information, please see Mrs. Tina Thompson or contact Bonnie Warren at 601-477-4170 or bonnie.warren@jcjc.edu.

Ole Miss Summer College:  Any 10th or 11th grade student interested in attending the Summer College for High School Students at Ole Miss, please see the information Mrs. Thompson has posted on her door.

University of Alabama’s 2011 Capstone Business Leadership Academy:  Any Junior interested in majoring in Business should see Mrs. Tina Thompson for information about this 10-day program.

Elementary Weekly Happenings 4.4.2011 - 4.8.2011

Early Dismissal:  Due to construction issues school will be dismissed early Monday, April 4, and there will be no Extended Care.  We will still have lunch on this day.  Students will be dismissed shortly after their lunch period.  Dismissal times are as follows:
11:30…Mrs. Harper’s Half-Day K-5
12:15…Full-Day K-5
12:45…1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades
1:00…4th, 5th, and 6th grades

Spring Pictures:  will be taken this Tuesday, April 5.  Class pictures will be taken at this time. Individual pictures will also be available.  Please let your child wear their navy blue uniform shirt.  Order forms were sent home Friday.  Extra forms are available in the office.

Headmaster’s Breakfast:  If your child earned Headmaster’s List (All A’s and all E’s or S’s in Citizenship) they were given an invitation to the Headmaster’s Breakfast, Wednesday, April 6, at 7:30 am, in the cafeteria.

Drama Club:  ALL CAST MEMBERS, ALL INDIAN DANCERS AND CREW will meet Thursday, April 7, after school till 4:30. It is so very important that everyone is there and stays till 4:30. This week's snack mom is Whitney Pickering.  (50 players)

Thank you to the 4th Grade moms for the delicious lunch.  The shrimp gumbo, salads, and desserts were delicious!  Thank you!

Preschool Weekly Happenings 4.4.2011 - 4.8.2011

Run to the Cross:  Coach Slaughter will return this year to train and run with your kids on Wednesday mornings.  She will be hosting a kid’s fun run April 9th at 9 am half mile run with chick-fil-a cow.  
Pancake and Pajama Day:  Please remember to send your child to school this Friday, April 8th in their pajamas as we have our annual “Pancake & Pajama Day”.
Easter Break:  We will be out of School on Friday, April 22nd and Monday, April 25th in observance of Easter.  There will be No Extended Care on those days. We will return to school on Tuesday, April 26th.  
Preschool Easter Parties:  The Preschool will have their Easter Parties on Wednesday, April 20th.  The K3 Students will have their parties from 9:00-9:45.  The K4 Students will have their parties from 10:00-10:45.  More information will be sent home regarding the parties in the coming weeks.
Extended CareExtended Care Payments are past Due.  Please make payments ASAP. There will be Extended Care available on Thursday, April 21st for regular users.  

Tuition:  April tuition is due by tomorrow, Tuesday, April 5th.  Please send in payments ASAP.
Re-registration:  Classes are beginning to fill quickly.  Please return Re-registration packets along with fees and capital improvement fees ASAP, to ensure a spot for your child for next school year.  
Sickness:  If your child is sick, please do not send him or her to school.  Please be sure that your child is free of fever for 24 hours before returning to school.
